BROWN SKIN, WHITE MINDS: MOVING PAST COLONIAL MENTALITY

Workshop Description: Your skin is too dark. Your nose is too flat. Without Spain, the Philippines would be a savage, underdeveloped nation. Filipinxs from the homeland are not as educated as Fiipinxs in America. These words hurt, but oftentimes it’s Filipinxs saying these things to other Filipinxs. Where do these ideologies come from and how can we move past them? Come learn about colonial mentality, why it exists, and how we can move forward and focus on our beautiful Filipino culture, which is defined by resilience and resistance..
Taught to undergraduates at Pilipinx Empowerment Retreat.
