my journey as a counselor + educator

moments and spaces that shaped me:

As a first-generation college graduate, grad student, and professional, the road to become the counselor and educator I am today has been paved with confusion, self-doubt, and adversity. I succeeded in school because "being smart" was how I proved myself in this world as a woman of color, but I moved through the education system aimlessly, unsure of who I was and who I wanted to be. My time in college was transformational. For the first time, I was given access to spaces where folks looked like me and classes where the curriculum was about me. I set out to learn more about myself and to connect more deeply to my culture through my coursework, leadership roles, and involvement with student organizing. As I moved through these experiences, I realized just how unfair our education system is for students like me who were the first in their families to navigate higher education. I knew things needed to change. And from there, Passion was born and the journey to "radically change the world" began.
